You are so welcome, Wendi! I started in galleries in 1989 and the climate has gone through a lot of transitions along the way. The tools for both artists and gallerists have changed, but not the need to create and support those that do.
You are most welcome. I have been gifted some great experiences and insights and I am thrilled that there is an audience to receive them. My interests are aligned with artists advancing their careers in all shades of progress and love doing it!
Thank you ever so much, Michael, for always reaching out to those of us in the photo community who are not collectors. Very few gallerists do this (I can count on one hand the ones that I know personally that send emails or do workshops that are meant for those of us slogging it out in the field just like you/they are doing.) Most emails are sent for selling and nothing wrong with that. We all need that. But there is something extra special about those of you who take the time to help those of us who have not reached Richard Prince status try to get a let up in the world.
Thanks Michael.... thanks for your efforts to help artists at all stages of their careers and those living outside of NYC and other major metro areas. Looking forward to seeing the next post.
I always appreciate your thoughtful newsletters. As an artist and collector, I find value in your perspective and appreciate your generosity of thoughts about the ever-changing world for artists working with photography. It's a vastly different fine art photography environment than it was when I was starting out in the 1980s. Thank you! I look forward to your next one.
Thank you so much, Isabel! So much information can be common sense, but remembering to apply it can be another matter. I am happy you found the column.
I just discovered your newsletter and find it very useful and honest. Most of the way needs common sense but not all people who are dedicated to being a photographer know certain things, sometimes they are obvious but sometimes they are not. When someone tries to be in contact with a gallery or apply to a call for entries, most of the time these people don't have a strategy. Your post goes right to the point. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
